How to apply for a Chinese visa

I. A Brief Introduction to Chinese Visas

 

A Chinese visa is a permit issued by the Chinese visa authorities to an alien for entry into, exit from or transit through China. The Chinese visa authorities may issue a Diplomatic, Courtesy, Service or Ordinary Visa to an alien according to his status, purpose of visit to China or passport type. The Ordinary Visa consists of eight sub-categories, which are respectively marked with Chinese phonetic letters C, D, F, G, J-1, J-2, L, X and Z

C Visa: Issued to crewmembers to perform duties on board an international train, airliner or other vessel, and their accompanying family members.

D Visa: Issued to an alien who comes to reside permanently in China.

F Visa: Issued to an alien who is invited to China for a visit, an investigation, a lecture, to do business, scientific-technological and culture exchanges, short-term advanced studies or intern practice for a period of no more than six months.

G Visa: Issued to an alien who transits through China.

J-1 Visa: Issued to foreign resident correspondents in China.

J-2 Visa: Issued to foreign correspondents who make short trips to China on reporting tasks.

L Visa: Issued to an alien who comes to China for sightseeing, family visiting or other private purposes.

X Visa: Issued to an alien who comes to China for study, advanced studies or intern practice for a period of more than six months.

Z Visa: Issued to an alien who comes to China for a post or employment, and his or her accompanying family members.

The overseas Chinese visa authorities are Chinese embassies, consulates, and other offices authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. If a foreigner intends to enter into, exit from or transit through Chinese territory, he/she shall apply to the above-mentioned Chinese visa authorities for a Chinese visa.

Visas are not required of aliens, who hold final destination tickets and have booked seats on international airliners flying directly through China, and will stay in a transit city for less than 24 hours without leaving the airport.

Visas are not required of Citizens of the following countries, who transit through Pudong Airport or Hongqiao Airport of Shanghai, provided they hold valid passports, visas for the onward countries, final destination tickets and have booked seats, and stay in Shanghai for less than 48 hours : Republic of Korea, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Austria, Greece.

No visa is required for ordinary passport holders from Singapore, Brunei and Japan to visit China for up to 15 days for business, sightseeing, visiting relatives and friends or transit.

II. Requirement for Ordinary Chinese Visas

 

1.    Tourist/Family Visit (L) Visa: "L"Visa is issued to an alien who comes China for sightseeing or visiting family members/friends.

Requirements:

-      One completed and signed Visa Application Form. If the visa application form is not filled out completely, correctly and legibly, this can cause a delay in processing or the refusal of the requested visa.

-      one passport photo (black & white or color is acceptable) glued or stapled on the form;

-      Passport (with spare visa pages, valid for over 6 months);

-      Round trip tickets and hotel reservation.If visiting family members, applicants shall provide certificates of kinship.

2.    Business Visit (F) Visa: "F" Visa is issued to an alien who is invited to China for a visit, an investigation, a lecture, to do business, scientific-technological and culture exchanges, short-term advanced studies or internship for a period of no more than six months.

Requirements:

-      One completed and signed Visa Application Form. If the visa application form is not filled out completely, correctly and legibly, this can cause a delay in processing or the refusal of the requested visa.

-      one passport photo (black & white or color is acceptable) glued or stapled on the form;

-      Passport (with spare visa pages, valid for over 6 months);

-      Round trip air tickets and hotel reservation;

-      An original visa Notification issued by an authorized Chinese unit.

 

3.    Employment/Work (Z) Visa: Z Visa is issued to an alien who comes to China for a post or employment, and his/her accompanying family members.

Requirements:

-      One completed and signed Visa Application Form. If the visa application form is not filled out completely, correctly and legibly, this can cause a delay in processing or the refusal of the requested visa.

-      one passport photo (black & white or color is acceptable) glued or stapled on the form;

-      Passport (with spare visa pages, valid for over 6 months);

-      Flight ticket or ticket reservation.

-      A visa notification issued by the authorized Chinese unit, and a Work Permit for Aliens issued by the Chinese Labor Ministry/ Foreign Expert's License issued by the Chinese Foreign Expert Bureau. A visa notification issued by the authorized Chinese unit or proof of kinship, e.g. marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc, is required for the accompanying family members.

 

 

Additional information:

-      ( Z ) visa is valid for one entry, three months. The holder of a (Z) visa shall go through residential formalities in the local public security department within thirty days of entry into China.

-      Any person suffering from mental disorder, leprosy, AIDS, venereal diseases, contagious tuberculosis or other such infectious diseases shall not be permitted to enter china.

 

4. Study (X) Visa: (X )Visa is issued to an alien who comes to China for study, advanced studies or intern practice for a period of more than six months. An alien who comes to China to study, short-term advanced studies or intern practice for a period of no more than six months shall apply for a Business (F) Visa.

Requirements:

-      One completed and signed Visa Application Form. If the visa application form is not filled out completely, correctly and legibly, this can cause a delay in processing or the refusal of the requested visa.

-      one passport photo (black & white or color is acceptable) glued or stapled on the form;

-      Passport (with spare visa pages, valid for over 6 months);

-      Flight ticket or ticket reservation.

-      An approved Foreign Student Visa Application Form (JW201 or JW202) issued by the authorized Chinese unit, and an enrollment letter from the Chinese school.

-      The applicant who will study in China for more than one year shall also provide a Physical Examination Certificate for Foreign Citizen.

5. Resident (D) Visa: "D" Visa is issued to an alien who comes to reside permanently in China.

Requirements:

-      One completed and signed Visa Application Form. If the visa application form is not filled out completely, correctly and legibly, this can cause a delay in processing or the refusal of the requested visa.

-      one passport photo (black & white or color is acceptable) glued or stapled on the form;

-      Passport (with spare visa pages, valid for over 6 months);

-      Residence Approval Certificate issued by the Chinese public security bureau. The applicant may entrust his or her relatives within China to apply for this certificate with the said authority.

-      A Physical Examination Certificate for Foreign Citizen.

6. Transit (G) Visa: (G)Visa is issued to an alien who transits through China.

Requirements:

-      One completed and signed Visa Application Form. If the visa application form is not filled out completely, correctly and legibly, this can cause a delay in processing or the refusal of the requested visa.

-      one passport photo (black & white or color is acceptable) glued or stapled on the form;

-      Passport (with spare visa pages, valid for over 6 months);

-      A valid visa of the country of destination, and a final destination airline ticket.

III. Processing Time

 

-    Normal process takes a week, if application materials are sufficient.

Suggested application time is 3 to 6 weeks before intended date of entry into China.

-    Urgent process is available if the visa officer agrees.

Urgent Fee Per Person:

1 working day: 35 euro; 2 to 3 working days: 18 euro

Group visa(for all citizens): 15 Euros/person

 

Applicants are required to fill out the "Plačilni nalog BN02" form and pay the consular fees through local banks or post offices, and pick up consular documents by the pick-up form and the payment receipt on the designated date at the Consular Department.The Consular Department of Chinese Embassy will not accept e-payment for the consular fees. Hong Kong Visas

 

Slovenian citizens may visit Hong Kong for up to 90 days without a visa, but a visa is required for those to work, study, establish or join in any business or to take up residence. You may send your applications to Hong Kong Immigration Department (Please visit http://www.immd.gov.hk/index.html for requirements).

Processing time is not fixed. The Embassy shall issue visas according to the response from the Hong Kong Immigration Department.
